This course is for individuals with zero to intermediatee film and dark room usage. This 12 week long course will guide you start to finish through the photo process, all the way from loading the first roll to gallery preparation, where your work will be displayed in Champaign-Urbana’s annual Boneyard Arts Festival.
No experience with film or photography is necessary to attend. Topics will range from basic elements to artistic expression and advanced dark room techniques. The group will meet on average twice a week, consisting of a lecture session and a field trip/lab session to reinforce what is covered in the course. Depending on feedback, further topics of interest may be covered after the 12 weeks.
Attendance of all classes is not mandatory to stay in the course, though if you choose to participate in the gallery, we ask you to strictly adhere to submission deadlines in order to keep the exhibition process as painless as possible. The weeks leading up to the gallery are always stressful, and depending on number of participants, dark room crowding might mean it will be preferable to be ready well before the posted deadline.
This is an independent course unaffiliated with the University. VAMP will provide materials (film, chemicals, etc.) for key course activities such as field trips, orientation sessions, or starter kits. Limited equipment will be on loan, and those looking to buy their own equipment will find the support and resources of club members.

Your Passion
Students will be charged a $25 lab fee to help cover the costs of course. This $15 goes to film, photopaper, gallery materials, and any other material necessary for the course to function. The $25 should preferably be paid as a check for the purpose of bookkeeping, but cash is also acceptable.
VAMP(Vintage/Analogue/Manual Photographers), established in the Fall of 2009, is a registered student organization with University of Illinois. Its mission is to educate students and promote the relevance of film as an art form. Students who choose to become part of VAMP will have an environment to learn how to shoot film photography and how to showcase their work at a professional level. By using film cameras and analog enlargement, VAMP encourages photography with a mindset different from that encouraged by digital media.
